Effect of Wavy Leading Edges on Airfoil Trailing-Edge Bluntness Noise

Among the several noise-generation mechanisms of airfoil self-noise, trailing-edge bluntness noise is an important source, which caused by vortex shedding at blunt trailing edges. A numerical study on control using bio-inspired wavy leading edges presented in this paper. The high-fidelity, improved, delayed, detached eddy simulation (IDDES) method was used to calculate flow field, and acoustic analogy for prediction. For both blunt-trailing-edge airfoils, a baseline with straight edge were study. chord-based Reynolds number 400,000, there no angle attack. results show that significantly reduced sound pressure level reduction about 3.7 dB characteristic frequency, maximum as high 35 dB. decreased all directional angles. overall 6.3 0°. In addition, analyzing fluctuations, wake characteristics, turbulent structures spanwise correlation coherence noise-reduction are deeply revealed.
